What hardware is accepted? We accept both working and nonworking PCs and Macs (desktop and laptop), monitors, keyboards, mice, all cables, scanners, printers, networking components, servers, and most any computer related products. Feel free to call and ask if we take your item, if we don't we will find you someone who does. We do not accept appliances. Do I need the original operating system disks? It would be great if you have the original operating system disks and license. This is particularly important in the case of Macs. However, it is not necessary to have the original disks (see below). Please note that in recent years some manufactures do not provide a set of operating system disks but rather store the operating system on a second partition of your hard drive. What if I don't have the original operating system disks? Have no fear! Your authorized refurbisher is here! In the case of PCs we can install a brand new, legal copy of Windows on the donated computer. What happens to my data? All data, programs, and operating systems are destroyed upon equipment start up. (see “service list” page) How do you remove any existing data? To best meet your data destruction needs, you may select a method ranging from a one pass overwrite, to a DOD that meets specifications set by the U.S Department of Defense. (see “service list” page)
What will happen to my computer? Your computer will be first be cleaned of any existing data, the drive wiped, operating system reinstalled, and physically cleaned inside and out. The machine will then be donated to a local nonprofit agency, school or family in need. Can I get a tax deduction? Yes! We will provide you with a form with fair-market value of your donation. Is there a fee? NO! Who do I contact to make a donation? You may contact us either by e-mail at recycle@designcomputers.org or phone (313) 378-9539. Please leave a message if no one is available. Can you pick up my hardware? Yes. We pickup hardware within a 20 mile radius of Detroit, MI outside of that area we may in some cases charge 48¢ per mile roundtrip. We may also be able to meet you "halfway" if that is more convenient. Just ask!
Can you pick up my hardware? Design Computers is ready to accept donations for refurbishing and recycle from 1-250+ Computer’s, large amounts are welcome but an inspection may be performed first and special arrangements made. Still have questions? Call or E-mail us!
